View Full Version : What gear do you use? Silent Bob 10-15-2005, 01:20 PM Quick question for all the photographers out there: What do you use? Silent Bob 10-15-2005, 01:22 PM My original camera was a 1.3 MP Olympus which has since been replaced with a 4.0 Kodak CX7430. Lighting rig is still amature level, a half dozen clamp lights and natural-light 100wt bulbs. I also have a 500wt halogen shop light for background lighting, and a couple of reflectors to soften shadows. Raven4986 10-15-2005, 02:09 PM I take pictures with my Kodak CX7300, it takes decent pictures but I still doctor them a smidge. So it works for me as photography is not my thing :D Silent Bob 10-16-2005, 02:47 AM I take pictures with my Kodak CX7300, it takes decent pictures but I still doctor them a smidge. Silent Bob 10-16-2005, 02:48 AM I got a Sony Cyber-shot 4.1mp Good auto-lighting, focusing and shutter speed. So it works for me as photography is not my thing :D I'm starting to get into it. I'm looking into getting a DSLR soon, but, that whole 'lens seperate' thing has me confused. Shandril 10-16-2005, 09:48 AM I have a Kodak DX6490 and I use an HP 7150 Photosmart printer to print the pictures that I want a hard copy of. MrHnau 10-16-2005, 01:29 PM Nikon 995. Need an upgrade. Need money first :smirk: Not serious photographer though, just do it for fun and memories. I'll see if I can provide some links to my favorite ones. MrH BlackCatBonz 11-20-2005, 02:08 AM i used to be a real shutterbug a long time ago.....but i could never really afford a good camera. i borrowed my fathers Pentax SLR and learned the basics......filters, lenses, film, blah blah blah. My wife was expecting 2 1/2 years ago, so i picked up a Sony DSC-P8 3.2MP. point and shoot job, but it has some nice features. Ive taken about 3000+ pictures with it and it works great. I use Photoshop 7.0 for any editing....and a canon i860 for prints. ping898 04-03-2006, 07:21 PM I am using A Canon TLb Manual Camera. I also have 35 mm-70mm Macro lens, 22mm f2.8 lens, 50mm lens and a 70mm-210mm lens. I also have a Olympus Stylus Epic Zoom 80 camera. The camera has a very good lens, I think it won awards when it came out in 2004. BlueDragon1981 10-29-2006, 01:15 AM Kodak z760. 6.1 megapixels. It is a decent camera for your everyday snapshot use. It only has 3x optical zoom and 3x digital zoom. I wanted to get a camera that had 10x optical and 6x digital, but didn't have the money at the time. This camera works well and it was a gift so I don't mind. It has a base station for recharging the ion battery which I actually don't mind after working in the photo area of the store. I witness people constantly buying some very expensive batteries way to often. The ion battery I use is around $30...which is a lot in one shot but it also has a decent charge time before recharging and this particular camera does not seem to suck the life out of it. The features on it are alright. Automatic lighting for things like fireworks and such, musuem pics...etc. It also came with all the cables. The usb port to put it onto my computer and such. The memory card that it takes is an SD card. Which from my experience is very reliable but doesn't compress the photo as much as some of the other types. Compact flash seems to hold more from what I have seen at work but they also seem to have more trouble.... although all the card types seldom have anything happen to them. (we have had more trouble with cds than we have with cards... other than the occasion person placing the card in the wrong card slot... grrrrr) xD cards by the way are the ones we have the most trouble with on our machines but they work fine on others.... weird stuff.... Silent Bob 10-29-2006, 02:51 AM Cool. Kodak makes good P&S cameras. My Z7590 takes pretty good shots in a pinch. Updating my gear: ==== Primary Camera: Nikon D50, 6.1 Megapixel, SLR, Digital Camera Lenses and Filters: AF-S DX 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED Zoom-Nikkor Autofocus Lens AF-S 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED Zoom-Nikkor Autofocus Lens Nikon 50mm f/1.8D AF Lens 28-105mm F3.8-5.6 UC-III ASPHERICAL IF Circular Polarizer Filter Other Cameras 1.3 MP Olympus D340 (now lost) 4.0 MP Kodak CX7430 5.0 MP Kodak Z7590 Film Media: 2 1GB and 1 2GB SD Cards. Tripod: Ambico 58" - A nice lightweight but sturdy basic tripod. Lighting and Backdrops: 2 500watt studio lights 5 natural light reflector shop lights. Several Umbrella reflectors and tripods. Remote flash Custom built Pipe and Drape kit. Several backdrops, various colors. BlueDragon1981 10-29-2006, 08:28 PM Nikkon seems to make some nice cameras too. I was looking at one but could not afford the one I wanted. It was around 7 megapixels, had a crap load of features and had the zoom I was talking about in my post before.... that would have been a sweet camera... just needed to be $100 or so less.... of course it probably is by now but now I can't afford anything.... BRG 12-04-2006, 01:50 PM I recently bought a Nikon D50 digital SLR. I have been looking to buy a digital SLR for a while now, but was put off by the price. But the store PC World had a sale, and I had a 10% off coupon for the store, so I save nearly £150.(although, it was still a heafty purchace for BRG!) I was into photography when I was a teenager, and took classes in the subject at school. I drifted away from it after I started work, but for a while now I've had the itch to get back into it again. The D50 got good reviews in all the magazines & websites as a good entry level DSLR- quite cheep, easy to use, and takes good quality picures for novice level guys like me. I must say what I really love about these digital camera's over the film SLR's I used at school is that they really give you the freedom to experiment and play around with.:) You take a shot and you have the result straight away, if it did not work, just hit delete and try something differant! In the old days you had to wait until you developed the film to see if you had messed it up or took a beauty. My mum & dad went on holiday to York last week, and as I also had a week off and there was a spare room in the flat they booked, I was able to tag along. I really enjoyed roaming round that lovely city taking photo's!:) Although, I was very self concsious about walking around with a chunky SLR when most people have those camera-phones these days, which are about the sise of a cigarette lighter. I can't helf feeling like a bit of a tit.;) BRG Silent Bob 12-04-2006, 02:37 PM Don't. The pics you take are going to be light years better than theirs. :) Silent Bob 12-15-2006, 01:20 PM Update: AlienBee 1600 and 48" Octobox. Very nice unit. Planning on ordering 4 more at least. :D Dj Kitty 02-07-2007, 01:17 AM Well, even though I don't know too much yet about photography but am very interested I'll tell you what I'm using then post a raw pic or two in the other topic. I'm using my Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT... no lighting yet and an old metal standard tripod from Blacks (with a broken leg lock... anyone know how to fix those things?). Miyu 02-07-2007, 03:51 AM I have the D50 as well...maybe we oughta start a D50 club lol Artemis 03-11-2007, 05:13 PM Film cameras: Canon EOS 5 Canon AE1 program Digital: Canon digital Rebel, first model, wish I had the XT with the new sensor cleaner I just got a Manfrotto 3001BPro tripod with a 804RC2 pan/tilt head and love it. I was trying to use a Benbo but more often than not, I would leave it behind because it took so long to get the camera on and off and to set up. The best part is it didn't cost me anything, I won a gift certificate to a local camera store through a photo contest. Lens: all canon 50 macro 18-55 28-135 MP-E and some old FD lens for my AE-1 filters, mostly Cokin: polarizers neutral density a couple gradual neutral density a couple warming some black and white contrast improving ones some special effect ones I never use anymore That's the bulk of it. I don't use much artificial lighting but I would like to get a macro twin flash a some time in the future. Artemis michaeledward 05-20-2007, 05:39 PM While this is a low volume forum, let me add my two cents. My daughter got placed into a photography class last year. She wasn't thrilled with the idea, and she did not choose it. But, she is usually a trooper and will give something a try ... not necessarily happily, but at least a little bit of effort. To help get started, she joined the photography club. So, with all that in mind, my wife and I bought a 35 mm camera for her class, and the club; a Nikon FM-10 film camera. We told her that the camera was for my wife, but that she (my daughter) could use it durning the class and club. The camera came with a 35 - 70 lens. I also added a SunPak flash. Well ... in this instant gratification society, my daughter decided that waiting to develop film was not something she wanted to deal with. She dropped the photography class and club, and joined the Anime club. Leaving me with a film camera. So, I figured I would start playing with the camera. I started taking pictures at the karate studio during promotion ceremonies. I've added a wide angle lens (Nikon AF Nikkor 24 mm) to the kit. Now I am looking toward some strobe lighting. I've also added a backdrop stand and a couple of muslins to the collection. We'll see how this all works out. It may be a 'flash-in-the-pan' hobby. But maybe not. We'll see. BlueDragon1981 05-21-2007, 01:20 AM Did you know that you have to have at least a 3 megapixel camera to make an 8 x 10 picture print out without abundant pixelation. Of course most cameras are past that....lol. Actually a 4 megapixel is better for the 8 x 10s. I don't know why I threw that out there. I guess because I teach our digital workshops at the store. Not much on picture making... more on the cameras, batteries, and our printing options. Why home printing still isn't near as good as store prints. (which is true).... that kind of thing. We have two professionals who use our machines..lol. One prints them out often. They are his pictures so he prints them and resells them for more.... the $%^. blindside 05-30-2007, 04:16 AM Canon Digital Rebel XT, bought it the month after they came out, now the XTi has 2 more megapixels.... sigh. :D I do mostly widlife photography so my lens selection is biased toward the telephoto end. I try to do everything in ambient light so I haven't dealt with the flash hardware yet. I usually run a Sigma APO 100-300m F/4 with a Sigma 1.4 teleconverter. Most people photography is done with a Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 or my "came on my film Rebel" Canon EF 28-80mm f/3.5-5.6 which is truly a lame lens. My filters are limited to some adjustable density polarizers for shooting in glare. Lamont Senmut 08-02-2007, 03:04 AM Call me a Luddite, but I prefer film to digital. I like the old-fashioned roll-film cameras, and have several with bellows, one going back to WWI. Sizes 120, 127, et al. Getting film is a problem at times, though. BlueDragon1981 08-05-2007, 03:13 AM That is some old film. We won't process anything but 35mm C41 film at the store. Heck the send out services wont even process anything else anymore. unowhoandwhy 12-13-2007, 04:47 PM I have a Canon Elph APS. I LOVE the landscape (extra wide) shots it takes, but if you want bigger than 8 X 10 the pictures isn't nice & clear. The shutter speed also seems to be slower these days (I've had it nearly 10 years & taken thousands and thousands of photos) so, I FINALLY decided to get a digital camera for myself this Christmas. My new Fuji Finepix S700 7.1 Megapixel is now on its way and I am definitely excited. I looked into quite a few advanced point & shoots (I don't have the training or patience for a full-on SLR) and even though I paid a bit more than I wanted to, as far as I can tell I am getting a very good deal for the money... I hope! I also ordered a one gig xd card for it, I wonder how fast I can fill that up. :D emt 12-13-2007, 07:06 PM I use a Petri FT 35 MM with four different Len's one Stadium and 2x2 it is old but takes great pictuers .:D |
