Mandriva Partner program reorganized

Our channel partner program has recently been reorganized to allow for
ever closer and more productive relationships with our sales partners.
The new structure allows much more flexibility to partners, allowing
them to choose between several levels of membership in order to find
one which matches their requirements. It also makes new features and
services available, particularly at the higher levels. More
information can be found in the press release.

Mandriva developer acts as kernel maintainer

In another demonstration of Mandriva's involvement in the Linux
community, one of our developers, Arnaldo Carvalo de Melho, is
temporarily acting as maintainer of the net-2.6.x kernel branch. He
will oversee the develpment of net-2.6.15 and its merge into the
final kernel-2.6.15 while the permanent maintainer is on holiday.
Congratulations to Arnaldo on this post!

Application Of The Unspecified Time Period

This Unspecified Time Period's featured application is units. units is
a simple console (command-line) application for converting from one
unit to another. Its usefulness comes, quite simply, from its huge
database. You almost certainly won't be able to find a unit which
isn't covered by units. It can cope with modern and archaic units of
distance, weight and time across a huge range of fields, from
theoretical physics to cookery. It's also very simple to use: just
run 'units' and it will ask you what quantity you want to convert to
what unit of measurement. Another interesting thing about units is
its database, which is a plain text file and contains many intriguing
nuggets of information. You can read it simply by opening the file
/usr/share/units.dat in any text editor. Install units from the
Software Installer, or by running 'urpmi units' from a console as
root.

Tuxmachines' Final Look at Mandriva 2006

Tuxmachines has been following Mandriva 2006 closely throughout its
development, and now the final version is available, they've written
a final roundup on it. You can read it here. They take a good look at
all the new features in 2006, and conclude: "Mandriva is a world class
system that can meet any user's needs, as it comes with just about any
application in existence and many server applications as well."

Mandriva Security
----------------------------------------
Keeping Mandriva Secure Is Totally Worth It, Says Local Woman

Karen Jones looks like any other local woman, but she has a secret -
she keeps her copy of Mandriva Linux up to date every day. "In the
past," Karen remembers, "I used to worry all the time about whether
my computer might be cracked. I'd be at the supermarket when suddenly
I'd remember the latest PHP vulnerability, and run home to check my
security logs." Now Karen says she never has to worry - she makes
sure she has installed all the latest Mandriva updates. Some people
tell Karen it's just too much effort to update every day, but she
tells them about Mandriva Online. Says Karen: "I signed up to
Mandriva Online last month, and now it downloads and installs all my
security updates for me as soon as they become available. It's made
such a difference to my life!" Be like Karen - do your security
updates regularly, and think about signing up for Mandriva Online.
