I've been eyeing one of there Virtual Private Server plans... http://webintellects.com Silent Bob 11-15-2005, 10:04 PM http://webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=365029&highlight=webintellects http://webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=322366&highlight=webintellects My position is that anyone who offers "unlimited" better show me the hard drive/pipe that can do it, as I haven't seen one myself. :) Andrew Green 11-15-2005, 10:21 PM Thanks, There "unlimited" isn't really unlimited if you look at it. Unlimited if you don't use image galleries, downloads, forums, anything with members, and a bunch of other rules, otherwise they limit it. More of a marketing thing then anything else it seems, as the more expensive plans all come with limits ;) The pipe is a 100 mbs connection on each server. BlueDragon1981 11-15-2005, 11:19 PM Yeah....nothing like the fine print. Shandril 11-16-2005, 10:20 AM 100 mb isn't that fast since most computers and servers that have a built in NIC is usually a gigabyte ethernet. Silent Bob 11-16-2005, 01:13 PM Personally, I have a low opinion for VPS. Read about too many issues with them. Then again, some folks have good luck with them. I just wouldn't use them for anything 'heavy', like serious forums, etc. Andrew Green 11-16-2005, 02:33 PM But paying for a full dedicated isn't a option right now, and I'd like a little more control then a shared host will give me. Plus to learn a little more about running my own shared space ;) So I figure this should give me what I want until the time comes to upgrade to a full dedicated server. Anyways, been doing a bunch more poking around, and liquidweb.com and servint.net are also looking like options. BlueDragon1981 11-17-2005, 11:55 AM look at networkeleven.com they are decent...don't have a clue if they offer what you want though....have very limited number of packages.. Andrew Green 11-17-2005, 12:14 PM look at networkeleven.com they are decent...don't have a clue if they offer what you want though....have very limited number of packages.. No they don't, I'm looking for a virtual private host. Shared hosting and me haven't been getting along, and a dedicated ia more $$ then I am willing to put into it right now. BlueDragon1981 11-17-2005, 12:20 PM Okay....I will possibly look around for you or ask people I know if they have any recommendations....if you don't mind. Andrew Green 11-17-2005, 12:31 PM Don't dig to hard, I've been doing a lot and will likely be ordered in the next few days. (Just waiting on a transfer into my paypal account) Silent Bob 11-17-2005, 04:59 PM What are your requirements? Andrew Green 11-17-2005, 05:14 PM Vurtual Private Server Good support Good Network 256 ram, more burstable Plesk or CPanel, unlimited user license root access room to grow $50 or less a month, monthly payments. probably a few other things, but thats the off the top of my head version ;) Basically I'm looking for a good stable place to put a few sites and learn about managing a web server, not bottm end, but on the lower scale of a good quality place with room to grow into if needed in the future. Andrew Green 11-28-2005, 12:22 PM Ended up going with Servint Their network isn't the fastest by the sounds of things, but their support is. Network isn't too bad, just not the speediest out there. So far, all things have gone well, things get done and answered within a few minutes (granted their hasn't been a lot of things) and my site is up :D Silent Bob 11-28-2005, 01:46 PM I've heard good things on them. I use a reseller of theirs for 1 server. |
