I am having a lot of trouble sharing my dial up after an upgrad in software from my ISP. I configure everything and it shares the information. However after I disconnect and reconnect it tries to reconfigure the IP addresses. That is weird.

I have a couple other options that I am going to try. I did the exact same thing I did last time to share it, but it isn't working. So now I'm going to simply do it a different way. Only minor changes that I looked up that I really didn't realize you had to do with windows xp. By the way they took out some of the options for ICS in windows xp. Versions before XP had more options for ICS.

Hopefully one day the area i live will get broadband....lol....its actually easier for me to set up a router and then config the IP's than it is to figure out why the stupid ICS isn't working correctly.

These are the resources i used by the way.....

Well i fallowed all the steps did it a number of different ways and it still reconfigs my ip's. Their software doesn't allow for any customization.

So I am switching to anothe isp soon. This one is from New York. I will give them a try. Couldn't be worse. http://www.localnet.com

Never use Netscape as a dial up service...or people pc.

Can you get DSL? I know Verizon offers a $14.95 DSL connection that is much better than dial-up the only problem with it is you have to make a 1 year commitment.

Nope....tried going that route. Only connection is $30 for a 160k by 160k connection. If they lowered that to 15 then i would consider it...they have a monopoly in this area.

If I had any startup capital I would start my own isp....but school has taken a toll on the finances.

I switched today...so far so good other then the dialer keeps popping up...which it did the same thing with Netscape but that I think is a problem on the laptop. Speeds are pretty much the same and I have more access numbers.

By the way Netscape tried to give me a free month and call back next month to cancel. I said no they tried again I said cancel it or I will take other actions...they then canceled it...but I fear its not done yet...I think you have to put in a confirmation number to cancel it....i'm not sure...the guy barely spoke english...imagine that....

So the sharing is working fine....

Ran into a few problems. The eccelerator proxy seems to be blocking access to certain pages...fixed that by only putting the proxy on http instead of all of them.

This connection does not seem to be reconfiging my ip addresses which is good but the gateway on my network keeps dissappearing....does anyone know why this might be? I'm thinking of unistalling the tcp/ip and reinstalling it...that might work...

ugh....

Are you using DHCP? and if so what is handing out the IP addresses? When the computer looses the gateway have you tried to release and renew the IP address to see if that fixes the problem?

I have reset all ip addresses...DHCP is on the dialup connection but not the network. In order to share dial up you need the gateway mostly. Having the dns helps too because you can't use a lot of the services without it.

I played around with it .... removed a lot of the old netscape internet services files from the registry and changed some things on start-up, restarted and reset all the ip's. Then restarted again...it seems okay.....for now anyway.
