I just read the specs that are expected of Vista.
Here is what most people run today
They have....
2 GHz
256 MB RAM
32 MB video RAM
That does not even fit the minimium requirement of Vista
Minimium
2 GHz
512 RAM
64 Vid Ram
Now to work correctly
2 GHz
1 GB RAM
128 Vid Ram
Now to work without problems (well without hardware problems)
2 GHz (perferably higher)
2 GB Ram
128 Vid Ram
Since people will most likely not have all that they are going to have to buy it so hardware companies will charge a little more for it and they will reap a great deal of profit.....now might be the time to buy stock in those companies.

This is going to make the cost of upgrading to vista very high.
The OS probably around $200
Hardware avg around $300 (probably more)
That is $500....this will make older computers that run XP barely...become obselete. I guess they will just have to switch to linux.

Isn't it also only aimed at 64bit processors?
That'll mean alot! of upgrading since most processors today aren't 64bit.

Wonder if it is at all related to the fact that very few people buy windows, generally people buy it through OEM license when they buy a new computer. If they're not buying a new computer they borrow the disk from someone who did.
This is not only good for hardware manufactures, but them too as people won't be able to run illegal copies on existing hardware, they'll have to buy new and pay the microsoft tax.

With specs like that I don't think a lot of people will be buying Vista when it comes out. If you need hardware like that to run the OS what do you need if you want to do something after the OS is loaded?

I read something about 64 bit...but they also made it sound like it didn't have to be...but i will go back and read it again to make sure I'm not mistaking.
I think this is just going to make more people seperate from Microsoft. Which is fine with me....you should not have to have a computer that costs 4000 to run a os....

I think a lot of people will stick with 2K or XP. If M$ is smart enough to improve gaming support in Vista, then you'll prolly see the hardcore gamers upgrading.

Thats the thing, 2K meets my needs, runs on what I can afford and runs well. I never liked XP, it seems, "Cartoonish" in look, and the newer in the pipe stuff would cost me several grand I simply can't spare to 'stay where I am'.

I hoping it will cause people to switch to linux....I am slowly making a switch over......

That would be nice but a lot of people would probable stay with the OS they have until they don't have a choice and then decided what OS to go with.

Most will simply go with whatever is running on their new pc. That will most likely be windows.

Yeah but i can dream....lol. That one day linux and windows will be created equal....(and people will get their head out of their ..... and realize there is something else out there.)

Your average user is not savvy enough to use Linux. And then you have geeks like me, who don't do much with Linux because we spend most of our time supporting Wintel.
