Cool,

Another thing you can do is rebuild the install disk, I believe the process is referred to as "slip stream".

Basically you copy the installation files to your computer, apply the patches, and reburn the installation cd.

Or a more convienient option if you do it a lot on the same computer is to complete install, including other software you always install (Office, photoshop, whatever...) and ghost it to disk :)

I haven't used Ghost in eons. Have they solved the issues with NTFS drives and Windows 2000 and above? (Something where the ghosted drive failed to work due to some special ID info or something...it's been a LONG while. LOL)

I've used it on XP systems at work a few times, biggest problem is windows doesn't like being transplanted into a different computer.

If they are the same model it goes fine, but ghosting between 2 different models doesn't work.

Yeah the hardware has to be the same so the drivers work properly. That is the one thing I miss about Win95 and 98 is the ability to pull the hard drive out of one computer and a few reboots later be up and running on the newly upgraded system. With 2000 and XP you have to do a complete re-install unless the hardware is exact.

Just think all this fun will begin again with windows Vista. :wink3:

That is a nice thing to have in the world of a tech. I will download it sometime. Probably will wait until I am at school with the t1 lines though.

I was rebuilding a computer for someone over the weekend, decided to give this a try.

Only works if your windows disk is SP1 or higher apparently, so while your at it download the IT/Developers version of SP2 to disk as well ;)

I'm going to make a disc with this fix, sp2, and my other utilities (Browsers, Messengers, Drivers, etc)

If i remember to download it at school that is....

Would i be able to boot the ultimate boot disk files on there also? Or would the iso not burn right....?
