I'm about a third of the way through Stephen King's "Salem Lot". So far it is pretty good (although not as good, IMO, as "The Stand"). Anyone here read it? What did you think?

I have not read Salems Lot but I liked The Stand. What is Salems Lot about? Personally I don't read much of that genre. I liked the Green Mile also which surprised me was written by Stephen King.

Vampires in a small New England Town!

Try "Hearts in Atlantis" if you want to discover Stephen King's full range. Quite good coming of age story, with horror only being a backdrop.

I've never been a big Stephen King fan. And usually his movies were MUCH worse than his books.

I kinda enjoyed Salems Lot, tho. (the movie not the book, I didnt read it) Not a masterpiece, but alright... which leads me to believe it was probably a decent book.

For me, Stpehen King's books have always been much better than his movies. Green Mile is an exception, it was simply an amazing movie, both for Tom Hanks and Micheal Clark Duncan's performance.

Now to the Stand, this is simply, IMHO, not only the best book of King's but also one of the top 5 best books I have EVER read. And I have read the original version (some 100 pages) about 30 times and everytime I read it I get something new from it. If you have not read it, give it a chance, the ultimate story of good versus evil, amazing. The mini-series was also pretty good, not great, but worth watching, starring Gary Sinise (pre Forest Gump I think), Rob Lowe ( a great performance where he did not use very many words), Corin Nemec (from Stargate fame), Ray Walston (from TNG, Boothby), Miquel Ferrer, and Matt Frewer.

Salem's Lot was a good book, The Tommyknocker's, The Green Mile, Buick 8 was also good, Misery, of course, got an Oscar for Kathy Bates (correct me if I'm wrong). I pretty much liked all of King's work except for the Four Horseman series, could not get into that one much.

Like I said, just my humble opinions.

I'm partway through the Dark Tower series. A friend has been loaning them to me, and I've had too much going on lately to remember to grab the next book from him. The Stand is still my favorite King book, though...

I think it would be safe to say that "The Stand" is most people's favourite King book! :)

Just finished it. It's definitely one of his best books.
