So what does anyone think of Lee's meteoric rise of ranks? And what does it say about Colonel Tigh, that he doesn't get promoted to Commander and take charge of the Pegasus?

It may be that he's the most qualified available. Tigh has his issues, and Adama may feel that he's best kept close where they can work as a team, whereas Lee has shown he understands both the regulations and the people better. It will be interesting to see where it goes, as being demoted on Pegasus tends to be fatal.

Personally, I don't think Jaime has the mannerisms to pull off a Commander level character. He's too soft spoken. This has been a complaint I've had alot though, as Aragorn in LOTR didn't impress me when he did the big speech either. One gets ruined by George C Scott in Patton I supose. :D

Well he went from Captain to CAIG, to in the Brig, to being Captain again, and then later Major. The next rank should have been colonel if you follow the existing ranks of BSG. Yet, the Chief Engineer who died, was the highest rank on the Pegasus after the existing Admiral (* who ran the ship like the Commander *) and her first officer were killed. He was not ready, now qualified for the people part.

So, Apollo being a First officer or Commander takes him out of the flying competition between him and Starbuck. Also the issue of CAIG versus CAIG is now out of the question.

The good part is that this now puts one of Adama's trusted in a place of authority on the other battle star. Now they can stop all the one ship versus the other, except for competition.

As to the existing First Officer aka Colonel Tigh, he never wanted command, and only came back and was Adama's bag man as we say in the Biz. He follows orders and can be trusted, but is not the one to make the big decisions on his own.

CAIG? And, no Lt. Col.?

I don't believe the Lt Col rank exists.

As to CAIG...Rich can't spell. Its just CAG :)
