Looking at the weapons systems in the new series, it's a far cry from the old techy talk and laser blasts of standard sci fi. Projectile weapons, armour, the show has a very WWII feel to it, with the addition of those zero G moves you can't pull off well in a modern airplane.

So, whats the scoop on the weapons tech?
Magnetically fired hyper fast, no powder rounds? Rail Guns? Any defensive shields ala Trek or Wars?

Lets wander for a bit and see whats already been figured out, and what else we can add to the R&D pile. :)

The new Galactica's reminds me of a WW2 era battleship fighting off an air raid, just a cloud of flak to protect itself, it is very refreshing to see after nothing but a lifetime of sci-fi shows with lasers and cheesy positive/negative shields, and I just love how they don't beat you over the head about how cool their tech is unlike Trek.

I'd guess the guns are railguns, but you see a muzzle explosion after they fire so maybe they are like boltguns in WH40K; rocket assisted rounds for that extra kick.

The Battlestars are huge, ZOIC posted a picture of Galactica next to a modern Nimitz CVN and it is about 4 times as long, 2 or 3 times as wide at the flight pods and with all that space it can easily fit workshops to keep its squadrons of Vipers in service indefinatly, repair battle damage and make parts for other ships in the RTF.
