Prepare to step through the gate all over again! A third television series (http://www.gateworld.net/news/2006/12/exclusive_third_istargatei_serie.shtml#) in the hit Stargate franchise is now in development, GateWorld has learned.

A production source informs GateWorld that the new series is in the concept phase, and is being actively worked on by the Vancouver creatives behind Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis. No concept for the show has yet been revealed.

The third TV series (http://www.gateworld.net/news/2006/12/exclusive_third_istargatei_serie.shtml#) is also not likely to be rushed into production for a 2007 premiere in order to replace SG-1, which takes its final bow with 10 new episodes this spring. Instead, a premiere in 2008 or later is more likely at this point. (Note that, at this time in the fall of 2003, Stargate Atlantis was well into casting, script-writing, and set-building to make a July premiere date.)

Following the success of the 1994 film (http://www.gateworld.net/news/2006/12/exclusive_third_istargatei_serie.shtml#) "Stargate," (http://www.gateworld.net/movies/01.shtml) Stargate SG-1 debuted in 1997, and spun off Stargate Atlantis in 2004. The two shows return to SCI FI (http://www.gateworld.net/news/2006/12/exclusive_third_istargatei_serie.shtml#) Channel in the U.S. with new episodes in April. The spring run of 10 episodes each will mark the series finale of SG-1, and the third season (http://www.gateworld.net/atlantis/s3/index.shtml) finale of Atlantis.

Stargate Atlantis returns for its fourth season later in 2007.

Meanwhile, SG-1 will continue with two movies (http://www.gateworld.net/news/2006/12/exclusive_third_istargatei_serie.shtml#), presumably direct-to-DVD, currently aiming for a fall 2007 release.

Stick with GateWorld for full coverage of the third Stargate series as news (http://www.gateworld.net/news/2006/12/exclusive_third_istargatei_serie.shtml#) develops!

I wish they had decided to devote the time and energy to making Atlantis as good as it was in Season 1, or to keeping my beloved AG-1 on the air, instead, but I'll watch the new show when it comes out & give it a fair chance.

WEll...I think atlantis has gotten better this season, last season was bad and I felt the first was a but ho-hum, but I have really enjoyed this season...

I think SG-1 has pretty much run its course. The series has completely lost its original style. Go through gate, explore new things, run away.

Now all the enemies where dead and the Ori are essentially "gods." The stargate is almost secondary to big space ships.

How much farther can they push it? They've already far outreached Star Trek in terms of technology and enemies. At what point John Cleese walk on screen and declare it "silly"

Atlantis I've been enjoying lately, perhaps even more so then SG-1. I saw somewhere that the directors have written a few "endings" to the series now, only to have it renewed, and IMO its showing.

If a third Stargate series does come about, I hope they keep it away from Skiffy.

I never watched SG1. I saw most of the first season of atlantis... it was a decent enough series, but it didnt hold my attention. There's always hope for the next one, eh?

The plotlines are at the bottom of the article....

In the first movie, "Stargate: The Ark of Truth" will bring a conclusion to the primary storyline of the past two seasons of the SG-1 television series. More thrills and action-packed scenes are planned for this special event movie, which will be directed by Cooper. The suspense will end as fans will see the conclusion of the epic Ori saga.
In the second movie, "Stargate: Continuum" the SG-1 team is now free to embark on new and exciting adventures throughout the endless Stargate universe.
