I actually haven't even finished the first episode, but I am almost done...and have a few impressions....
Oh yeah does it come across as a Star Wars rip off, right down to the front used in the opening credits....
I like the reimaged a LOT better than the original....
Though I like the storyline of the mine field being cleaned and think that would have been kewl to have in the reimaged...
And I didn't realize Dr. Quinn and the guy from A-Team was on the show...
I thought Baltar had a bigger role than he seems to have played....more thoughts later...maybe...
Im sure it was good for its day...Ive seen a few eps and the pilot movie and it was entertaining. However I like the new series, because I don't find it as fluffy and happy as the original

I never really understood how a show about the genocide of man could be a happy and fun show.
And I thought this years before the new show came out so me thinking this isn't some evil plot by GINO fans to subert people from watching the original.

We've had 30 years to nitpick TOS apart, and trust me, e have. LOL
For it's day (mid 70's) it was pretty good. The effect were top notch (in fact same effects also used on Buck Rogers).
Baltars role in the pilot was small, and in fact he was killed off at one point, but brought back as a reoccurring villain. More greedy and self serving than TNG's Baltar, he was still the same sniveling coward.
When watching anything from the 70's, you have to remember that most shows were pretty simplistic. The bad guys were bad, the good guys were good. There were few if any grey areas. The characters were often portrayed in epic hero mode, very one dimensional.
One of the basic points of the show was that there is hope. Today, we're used to complex storylines, take cgi for granted, expect flaws in our heroes, hell we often root for the bad guy. It was a simplier time, and sometimes, it's missed.
The original BSG's flaws were the budget restraints that kept them from having the wide range of SFX the big screen had, and what by the end of the first season was a 'sameness of plot'. That flaw though is also seen in STTNG, DS9 and don't even get me started n Vger and Enterpoop. Second season (which they didn't get) would have changed things up alot, though the TOS fanbase is divided on if the proposed changes were going to be good or not.

I do understand this is an older series and should be treated as such....kind of why I still like Magnum P.I. even though it is cheesy....and it might have been interesting to see what changes would have been made in season 2.....
I find the love story to be cheesy between Apollo and Serena...I like Adama better in the new one and how the President is the one who believes all the anchient teachings rather than Amada like the old one...

Well, when you're a 12 or 13-year-old watching it back in the late '70's, it was the greatest. But skip Galactica 1980. Trust me on this!

Well I didn't see the TOS until about ten years ago when Sci-fi channel first showed it and that show predates me by 3 or 4 years so I have not had as long to nit pick LOL!

You know one of the things that does annoy me on the show is they changed the words for time and distance....this micron crap is just obnoxious.

Star Wars did the same thing, played with terms, and so did Trek. (more thoughts later, must fly)

Well got the second DVD in the series today....kind of funny watching this and seeing all the people I recognize from other shows...first Dr. Quinn, then the guy fromt he A-Team, now Rick from Magnum P.I. and some other lady I can't place but recognize...it is like watching Law and Order where every actor or actress seems to make at least one appearance on one of the 3 series...
