I happened to be scanning the convention ring and noticed that Slanted Fedora is no longer in business (see their website URL below).

http://www.sfedora.com

They had a huge convention in Indianapolis planned (either this weekend or next - cannot remember) with Dwight Schultz, Aron Eisenberg, Ray Park, Vaughn Armstrong, Robin Curtis and many more...) along with their usual New York and Chicago conventions.

Guess it tells you what happens if you do not manage your finances very carefully and do not read your market properly.

Too bad...I hate to see any convention go out of business. :crying:

Damn.

I know they were looking at doing a Rochester event a little while ago that had to cancel a week or 2 out due to lack of responce. I think they had less than 50 PreReg.

Sucks, because WNY used to be huge. Creation, SF, and a few others used to do numbers like 1-3 thousand.

Click Here for an interesting insight to the conduct of Slanted Fedora (http://www.geocities.com/slanted_fedora/)

I think the problem is not only bad planning due to cost over-runs and bringing the attendees in.

It's also the impending legal actions due to their less than stellar practices n how they conduct themselves.

I could draw comparisons to a certain company in Toronto, but I won't ;)

I am also looking for some posts by actors who were apparently booked without their knowledge/consent and had to show up nonetheless.

Check out the above weblink (http://www.geocities.com/slanted_fedora/), it's rather interesting for an alternate version that you may not find on the company website.

That whole refund issue is why I personally never pre-reg, and always buy at the door. The couple extra bucks saves me from risking losing it all, if the con folds, etc. An all to likely event nowadays.

VERY interesting read!! Thanks Sid for posting it!!

I never made it to one of their shows, we actually thought of going to the one in Indianapolis but glad we decided against it!! ;)

You are right though Sid, Dave Scott would never have posted THAT on his website!! OR this link below from the Salt Lake City con that was scheduled last month.
