 I'm sure that there is a "logical" explanation for why Shoreleave can sign SEVEN guests where another July convention at the same time has NONE.

Well it must be related to its LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION.

Guests don't want to come to Canada because...

... they get paid less because of our Canadian dollar

Oooops, nope...that can't be the reason because they'd get paid U.S. Dollars from us too.

... it's too far to travel

Ooops, nope...that can't be the reason because OTHER Canadian conventions and UK conventions can sign the guests for THEIR conventions.

... it's got to be SARS

Ooops, nope...that can't be the reason because that news is OLD news...no one is thinking of SARS...the biggest news story is still the Tsunami in South East Asia.

Gee, could it be the PEOPLE RUNNING THE CONVENTION?????

Maybe....ANYONE? ANYONE?

Too bad it's a tad far for us to be driving there otherwise this would be a worthy convention to attend.

The B5 guests are always exciting and both Pat & Jeffrey were amazing when I saw them at Trek before.

It's always fun to see Buffy guests, ever since we started getting our DVDs signed.

There's certainly a diversified guest list...kind of reminds me of the "old days" of another convention.

Couple questions:
How big is this con?

What is the average # attendees?

How old is it?

This is Shore Leave 27 (so they have been around about 8 years more than the Fan Run convention in Toronto).

Shore Leave "caps" out their pre-registration at 1750 tickets and then all the rest of attendees must buy tickets at the door.

Shore Leave attendance judging by their "cap" of pre-reg would lend the belief that their attendance is in the "same range" as the Fan Run con in Toronto).

Their prices are as follows (note these prices are in US funds):

Membership Prices
Pre-Registration Cost (Weekend only), must be received by June 15, 2005 :
Adult: $50
Children (5-12): $12
Children (under 5): Free with paying adult

At the Door Cost:
Weekend: $60
Friday Only: $15
Saturday Only: $35 (includes Masquerade and Ten-Forward)
Saturday Evening Only: $10 - For admission to Masquerade (viewing attendance) and Ten Forward only. To participate in the Masquerade you must have at least a full Saturday membership.
Sunday Only: $30
Children (5-12): $12
Children (under 5): Free with paying adult

I thought this was kinda neat for the Photo op with Pat Tallman and Jeffrey Willerth.

Photo Opportunities!

For the first time, Shore Leave has arranged for photo opportunities with our headliner guests. These photos will be taken at scheduled times on Saturday, July 9. Check back here closer to the time of the convention for exact times.

However, that's not the best part! The photos that are taken during the photo sessions will be made available to you in time for the late afternoon autograph session!

Mary McDonnell, Steve Bacic, Danny Strong, Pat Tallman and Jeffrey Willerth have agreed to participate in the photo sessions. (Pat will be appearing in costume as Lyta Alexander and Jeffrey will appear in costume as Kosh.) More participating guests will be annouced as they are confirmed.

What's the price? Just $25 per photo op ($35 for Pat and Jeffrey in the same photo).

The photo op with Pat and Jeffrey in their character's costumes sound VERY cool! The prices sound very reasonable too. The organizers are quite smart by scheduling the photo sessions BEFORE the autograph sessions so that people may choose to get their personal photos autographed.

As a parent, I love this at Shore-Leave, "Children's Programming"

http://www.shore-leave.com/Children.htm

It is strictly on the Saturday but allow the parents a chnace to bring the kids and still get an opportunity to see some of the convention.

Bad News - They had a Guest Cancellation

Due to last-minute changes in the Battlestar Galactica filming schedule, Mary McDonnell has been forced to cancel her appearance at Shore Leave. Please check back for updates.

(I hope this doesn't affect Katee Sackhoff's appearance at TT19 a week later for ther fans in Toronto with a change in BSG's shooting schedule).

WOW!! This con is quick to replace the cancelled guest (and for Fanboys a definite upgrade!)

New Guest Added:

Tricia Helfer
Battlestar Galactica's Number Six
