View Full Version : Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End Silent Bob 06-04-2007, 04:11 PM Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End Who saw it? How many times? What'd ya think? and.... Why is the Rum Gone? arnisador 06-04-2007, 05:24 PM We still haven't seen it yet, due to general busyness. braxiss 06-04-2007, 07:22 PM saw it no comment Cryozombie 06-05-2007, 01:03 AM Eh. It was... ok. Silent Bob 06-05-2007, 03:18 AM I want an HD tv and HD dvd player so when it's out on dvd I can see it at hi res. Loved the effects. unowhoandwhy 06-05-2007, 10:42 AM I'll wait for the DVD like I did with the others. It's just too much trouble to travel all that way to the theater & spend more on watching the movie once than I would to buy the DVD on sale, sit in my house and watch it without having to deal with traffic & rude theater patrons. :D theafaye 06-06-2007, 09:00 PM I liked it, I thought it was a little too long, but I liked it. dubalicious 06-07-2007, 11:33 AM I didn't like it, too long, too pointless and instead of a massive sea battle in the end we get shafted and instead get a lame fight between 2 ships in a rain storm... ghey! Miyu 06-08-2007, 03:09 AM Hey Arni, we'll sneak you away from that dratted camp and go to the show! arnisador 06-12-2007, 10:01 PM Saw it tonight...disappointing. The last half was too slapstick. Great effects and action though. I wanted more Chow-Yun Fat. ping898 06-13-2007, 11:43 AM I will be seeing it on Saturday unowhoandwhy 06-13-2007, 12:59 PM I'll be waiting for the DVD. *BJ 07-15-2007, 05:44 PM never mind the rum... just DON'T MOVE.... where is sparrows brain.. he dropped it you know. i liked it.. no it wasn't everything 1 and 2 were but when yuo get to number 3.. its all been done, there is only so much you can dxoo with the story line. it had twists and turns and a ending i never expected. and a great set up for number 4. good sight gags and funny one liners.. a nice sit down and watch movie :) Shandril 07-15-2007, 10:15 PM I like it. The movie was worth seeing just for the special effects tellner 04-21-2008, 02:47 AM A lot of critics and other people who can't open their frickin' eyes and see what's in front of them thought it was "confusing" or "disappointing" or some such. They were remarkably incoherent about why. We saw it and said to each other "Well goddam. Someone at Disney has grown a soul. How the hell did that happen?" I'll tell you why a lot of them were uncomfortable with PCAWE. It's subversive. It's Politically Incorrect for the sheeple. Look at how the movie starts. The poor wretches are being lined up to die a dozen at a time - men, women and children. The guy reading out the sentences is not the governor or the governor's representative. He's a Company man. The Company runs things. The government is now irrelevant. "The following rights have been modified or suspended"...trial by jury...freedom of assembly...habeas corpus...right to counsel..." ending with "Anyone aiding or associating with Pirates Will. Be. Hanged." Sound familiar? The villains are identically dressed Company men. They all speak good English. They are extensions of the Will of the Company and its officers. They're all White Anglo Saxon Protestant Men. The Company's Bottom Line is the only important thing in the world. Anything that stands in the way of it must be crushed. Nothing is sacred. Anyone who spreads disorder and stands in the way of the Company must be destroyed. The heroes are the Pirates. They represent every race and color of Mankind. Some of them are women. Some of them are *shudder* Muslims  There is no Central Authority that keeps everyone safely in line. They break rules. They are governed by a rough democracy, sometimes very rough. Everyone has a say. Influence depends on the amount of personal respect you can muster or power you can bring to bear. In council the Captains "derive their just powers from the consent of the governed" i.e. each other. This is 180 degrees dead against the way that the English-speaking world in general and America in particular has been moving for the better part of a decade. The Scary Brown People are the good guys. There are worse things than disorder. People shouldn't be sheep who are governed by fear. Human rights and liberty are more important than the occasional cutlass or gunshot wound. The inhuman pursuit of power and control and profit above all else is evil. This is heavy subversive stuff. I applaud the writers and the director who had the cojones to say stuff that seditious out in front of G-d and everyone and millions of moviegoers. Silent Bob 04-21-2008, 11:04 AM You could see it that way. Me, I just see it as somewhat historically accurate. Pirate ships usually were the most diverse and democratic groups out there, and the colonies often were controlled more by the founding companies than the remote governments. Remember, colonies were funded mostly by companies looking to make a profit and founded under consent of the King. Support in the form of an initial investment, and use of arms, ships and men often followed. Freedom's been a big part of the series too as in the first film Sparrow compares the Pearl to being free. So, to me, it's not Disney trying to sneak in a 'modern opinion', but trying to make the fantasy world of POTC as authentically flavored as possible. Miyu 04-21-2008, 01:22 PM Im still unclear as to why Barbossa was a first mate under Sparrow when he was one of the Pirate Kings or whatever....I tried wiki to see if there was some back story but they didn't mention it Silent Bob 04-21-2008, 01:35 PM I believe it was after the mutiny but before his death that he became a pirate lord. Lots of POTC info here: http://pirates.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page He was lord of the Caspian Sea, which is odd, because that's a landlocked giant lake lying between Russia and Iran. Miyu 04-21-2008, 02:14 PM He was lord of the Caspian Sea, which is odd, because that's a landlocked giant lake lying between Russia and Iran. It sounded cool? :p Silent Bob 04-21-2008, 05:04 PM Probably. Or, more likely it was "inherited" somehow. Nobody 05-04-2008, 03:16 AM Ahoy mattie Uhm, Is there a video out of this one yet, I need to get it to finish of the set. I mean I have the other two though I have never seen this movie I do want to finish out my set. Silent Bob 05-04-2008, 11:14 AM Been out for a while now, couple different versions.
