I bring your attention to this most amusing thread:

So the webmaster confuses July and August and they think Father's Day is in July...hmmmm I think someone needs a calendar for their birthday.

So I am reading with more amusement on the CV thread and I see an item that Bob or Sid may enjoy, depending if other cons do this. Apparently, ConVersion doesn't get liability insurance for their event, simply because no accident has happened to them in the past, and a few hundred bucks to protect themself is just too costly. Ideas? heh

That is an interesting "thread" being discussed. Maybe someone from TT/P can "shed some light" as to whether insurance is an issue here in Ontario running conventions - to be honest I have never read it anywhere on any of the TO sites (not that it isn't there mind you!) :)

And people wonder why it's hard to retain/attain volunteers for conventions when their valid concerns are dismissed or attacks their 'we know what we're doing' egos.

I was also "shocked" at the way the potential volunteer was treated by asking a fair and good questions of TPTB.

A con that does not at the minimum listen to constructive criticism and also take people's good ideas (and to boot this person wants to help!) is going down a bad path!

Guess nowadays nothing surprises me......

Yeah.. see.. it's not just me that gets pooped on for asking decent questions! :)

Hell, my friends and I got pooped on for trying to help AdAsstra. Result, I washed my hands of it. Now apparently I'm losing friends because I refuse to sit on a committee that treats people poorly. I guess that's the way things are accross Canada now ?

Well I saw this page on Google, seventh down, when I searched "con-version calgary" so I thought I'd be nice to post this old thread in here too.

Oh now CV thinks they are the only convention in town!

Really, between the Expo in May, the Anime con in May, and the Gamer's con in September, they are probably in third or fourth place when it comes to attendance. And now they think they are the only one in town! Haha.

Well in all fairness he could have just meant another one of their conventions, in theory, by one guy. It's not nearly as bad as the douchebaggery of people like Kirstin or Kristin or whatever that cow is.

That is true.. but he must know of the other cons, since they post on that forum. This is actually the first I've heard of the gamer con, and apparently they've been around for a long while too.
