I was watching Sci-fi today, and Andromeda was on. It suddenly hit me what the "intangible" thing has been about star trek that always bugged me... and why I think Star Wars is much cooler...
Its a storylining thing... On shows like Trek and Andromeda... there is always some "implausable" thing that happens/works/saves the day... that just seems... ya know... hokey... Like ships designed to run on one type of fuel suddenly working fine with another... (It would be like pouring orange juice in your gas tank and your car running) or Time Fluxes, or technology doing all sorts of stuff it was never designed to do... Whereas with Star Wars, despite its inconsistancies and issues... is... I dunno... more plausable to me...
I cant think of how to accurately describe it... so instead... I will Illustrate the point by giving you "A New Hope", Star TREK style...
A Long Time Ago In A Galaxy far far away...
The Movie opens up with Princess Leia's correllian Corvette under fire by Vader's Star Destroyer...
Captain Antillies: Princess, we are caught in the Star Destroyers Tractor beam.
Leia: Captain, do somthing. Give it more power...
Captain Antillies: I'm givin her all she's got princess, if I give her more the ship will break up!
Leia: Do somthing...!
R2: Beep Boop Beep
C3P0: Princess, R2 suggests that he can modulate the frequency of the engines to break the tractorbeams hold.
Leia: R2, Make it so!
The Corvette breaks free of the tractorbeam and streaks off, but as it prepares for the jump to hyperspace...
Captain Antillies: Princess, a gravatonic anomaly has appeared in space. It seems our engines are dead.
The Corvette is captured. A rebel commander in a red shirt is killed. R2 and 3P0 jettison to saftey. But are soon captured by the Jawas. The Jawa's take them to the Skywalker Farm, where they are purchased by Luke's Uncle Owen. However, luke stumbles onto a recording and soon him and old Ben Kenobi are on their way to Mos Eisely to find a Pilot.
Han Solo: Sure, i can get you to Alderaan. My ship is the fastest in the galaxy, it can do .5 past lightspeed. Anything faster and she would blow up. Now Llets go.
Han, Luke, Chewie, the Droids and old Ben take off, but are intercepted by A star Destroyer.
Luke: Cant this thing go any faster?
Han: I'm pushing her at .8 past lightspeed kid...
Luke: Wait... I thought you said she could oly go .5 past lightspeed...
Han: I did... but chewie here modified the engine frequency and now we are going .8 thanks to the harmonic resonance of the crystal matrix of zulon 7.
The Falcon slingshots between two of tattooine's suns, and travels back in time to the era of the clone wars. Luke Warns Padme that Anikan is going to become Vader, So she allows ObiWan to follow her to Anikan's hideout on the Volcanic world, thus insuring that Vader really is created... but before Luke realizes his mistake, han jumps the ship around the sun again, and discovers that Alderaan is destroyed.
Suddenly a Huge Cube is floating in space in front of them... the Death Star Cube! The falcon tries desparatly to modulate the frequency of the engines to escape, but the modulation is assimilated by the Deathstar, and they are brought on board. After a long and futile battle, Han and luke rescue princess leia and make their way back to the Falcon, only to discover that Ben and Vader are about to Duel...
Ben: Vader, If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine...
Vader: Your Powers are weak old man..

Ben Swings his saber at vader, who easily blocks the blow, only ben had somehow discovered that by modulating the harmonic resonance of his blade, it can slip past vaders... and he destroys vader utterly.
They all escape in the falcon, but the hyperdrive fails, and they land inside a giant asteroid.
Han: Its no good, the Hyperdrive Motivator is out of dilithium. Its the only thing that can fuel the ship.
Ben: Not so fast. I think the rocks on this asteroid are infused with concentrated force. That will be a perfect substitute for dilithium, even tho the ship isnt designed to run on it...
And the Falcon is off again.
Meanwhile, The Death Cube heads to Yavin, to blow the planet up. The Rebels discover a weakness in the Death Cube... if they constantly change the frequency of the photon torpedos they can overpower the Assimilation ability of the Death Cube...
And Luke, Han, and Chewie get medals.
The End.
