I want to start this review off by saying the opinions/statements I am going to type are my own and I am in no way employed by SFX nor do I have any personal stake in SFX/Hobbystar.

My wife and I attended SFX 2008 this past weekend (her for Friday/Saturday and me for all 3 days) and I can say that overall it was a good experience. We got to meet some awesome guests (Edward James Olmos, Brent Spiner, Renee O'Connor, Brad Dourif, Sean Astin, Henry Winkler and Aaron Douglas), got to see some good friends and generally had a fun time.

You definitely need a "Brinks Armour Car" to attend SFX - Autographs were expensive and here are a few samples: Buzz Aldrin $200, Edward J. Olmos $60, Kate Mulgrew $40, Shawnee Smith $40, Sean Astin $35, Henry Winkler, Aaron Douglas $25.
Photo Op pricing as follows: Edward J. Olmos $60, Buzz Aldrin $50, Kate Mulgrew $40, Shawnee Smith $40, Brad Dourif $30.

A select few guests would let you take pictures with them at their table for free (Renee O'Connor and Aaron Douglas for two of them) but generally the convention/expo was line-up and PAY PAY PAY! Even me who is a BIG fan of SFX had to cut-back/budget accordingly as our money would only go so far. I cut-off autographs I was planning on getting and we only paid for 2 photo ops (Edward J Olmos and Brad Dourif).

The pre-bought Admission tickets was well run and we got through that line and had our tickets in o more than 15 minutes (miles better than previous years). The line-up to get in was big but actually moved at a decent speed so no big issue there (was about 10 minutes late getting in from the expected 2:00pm start time).

The dealers room was huge but to be honest all I bought was 1 Doctor Who figure ($20) and 1 UNDERDOG Wobbler (couldn't resist for $10). There were some dealers that were charging CRAZY arse prices and I just walked on by.

The photo op pickup on Sunday was pretty good, they had 3 ladies organizing the envelopes and making sure everyone got the proper photos.

I was disappointed that on Friday so few guests were actually there (only Brent Spiner, Henry Winkler, Sid Haig, Aaron Douglas and Kristy Swanson) for autographs pictures and actually Renee O'Connor cancelled her Q&A and decided to come SAturday/Sunday only.

On Saturday there were lines and lines and lines and lines...Sunday was AWESOME (other than Brent Spiner's autograph line it was basicall no lines at all - or just a few people in line!).

All said we will be back at SFX in 2009!!
