OK, I will get this one up early and advertise it everywhere I can!! You are getting almost a full year's notice on this one!!

Toronto Trek 20, Canada's longest running fan-run sci-fi convention will be holding their 20th anniversary convention on the weekend of July 7th-9th, 2006 at the Doubletree Hotel in Toronto.

They have actually announced 2 guests for this convention next year (these guests were announced at the closing ceremonies for TT19)!

Michael Shanks
StarGate SG-1

Amber Benson
Tara from Buffy The Vampire Slayer

I was very pleased to hear that Amber Benson will be a guest at Trek 20. I never got a chance to see her or meet her when she was at Trek a few years ago. It was the same year that Anthony Daniels and Dominic Keating were guests. That year I was determined to meet Anthony Daniels and get my photo with him while I was dressed in my Queen Amidala costume (check out the pic on my avitar). As a result of his looooonnnnng lineup, I had to skip my chance to see Amber Benson and Dominic that day. On Sunday, I missed her again because the way the schedule was I didn't want to miss seeing Dominic who I'd missed seeing on Sunday. I had heard such wonderful things about Amber and regretted not getting a chance to see her.

That's my only negative towards Trek. I often find there is TOO MUCH overlap in their schedule regarding the guests. I'd prefer they could find a balance so that you wouldn't have to sacrifice seeing a guest talk in order to get an autograph. Perhaps they will consider what other conventions are doing and either put multiple guests from the same series on stage at one time or even SHORTEN some guest talks to a half hour. This would allow some time in the schedule and perhaps the autographs could be at one large timeblock instead of being opposite other main events. I guess that's why other conventions such as Vulkon are more appealing for seeing the guests and getting autographs. It's true that you pay for the autographs that you want but you have more opportunity to see and chat with them, can pose for pictures with them and don't sacrifice other events to do so.

For anyone checking, the Toronto Trek 20 website is down at the moment (ISP issues), as soon as it is back up I will post so here.

Keep this convention marked in your calendar - it will be an awesome con in 2006!!

Here is the link to their website!!

Just a couple of quick notes on TT20!!

1) Their website is up and running (has been for a while, I just forgot to update this thread - sorry).

2) Michael Shanks attendance is a "SUNDAY ONLY" appearance, this has now been noted on the Toronto Trek Message Board and they will be updating their site shortly to reflect this.

3) Please see the new policy regarding Toronto Trek's Autographs on the TT20 site and/or see the thread regarding this in this forum.

I am sure the fanboys will appreciate the addition of Lexa Doig!!

And I'm sure Michael Shanks will appreciate having his lovely wife there to help protect him from all of his drooling fans ;)

I was very amused to see the name of Lexa Doig's character for SG-1, since my manager at work has the exact same name, spelling and all. Maybe I'll be able to get her an autograph, from one Carolyn Lam to another :)

This is a great concept for signing guest...sign one spouse and then work on getting the other too!

Michael Shanks....Lexa Doig

Next please,
Pat Tallman......Jeffrey Willerth
Bruce Boxleitner.....Melissa Gilbert

Hopefully there are "package discounts" for TT if they get both spouses! ;)

I thought I would share the following e-mail I sent to someone else (name removed) to try and help people understand how things stand regarding the policy change at TT on autographs. I hope this helps people understand my point of view. I've tried to edit this a bit more conscise.

Feel free to share as long as everyone knows this is my personal answer and not the answer of TT.

Thanks for writing but people are assuming the worse and not asking the whys, benefits or details behind this POLICY change. Clearly, there is no intention to "hide" this otherwise why would we post it to our web page and draw attention to it on our flyer?

Unfortunately or fortunately (depending upon your point of view) I've seen conventions go from events with free autographs for everyone to a few guests charging to almost everyone charging. This is definitely the norm.

I remeber the fuss when we first started allowing guests to charge for an autograph.

Most actors, now expect to make good money selling there autograph at an event like ours. In addition to their appearance fee, they figure they can sell "X" autographs at $20 each. While, we have always requested one free autograph for anyone getting an appearance fee, over the last few years this has often meant we have had to pay a higher appearance fee (i.e. Appearance Fee + percentage of x*$20) to cover the autograph cost the actor expected to make.

This has meant in the last few years part of everyone's membership has gone to pay for an autograph for certain guests even if you were or were not interested in getting an autograph from that actor.

This is most unfortunate but this is the reality we are dealing with. As you can see at the many other events out there. Also remember TT does not see any of that money, so there is nothing in it for us. However, the fee plus the one free autograph total cost, could have mean a few guests were just outside our budget.

Given this, and given this will be our 20th year and we wanted to have a GREAT guest list for this year. We had to choose: to continue with the 1 free autograph meaning we'd either have to building in more fees into everyone's memberships (or have less guests) or we'd wave the one free autograph requirement and charge less.

Given the ever increasing prices it was decided to NOT pass along the fees to everyone but instead let those who want those autographs to pay. Everyone can still see all the guests on stage, still line up in autographs and say hello, choose to go the photo sessions. If we raised the membership fee much more (we talked about $100) some people may have had to choose to come to TT or not.

As you and many people who attend regularly know, every year we make changes. We make every effort to communicate those changes (like us not doing the dinner this past year.) There were many people who were disappointed that the dinner was dropped.

We are early in the year so there will be more communications on this as we have a better understanding of things ourself. Again, at this point we have only changed the POLICY, dropping the requirement of 1 free autograph when negociating. As things processed and as you know each year we would list in the bio pages what days guests would be on stage, where they were signing, if they were doing photo sessions and finally if they were on the autograph card or not.

Yes, the plan is to communicate this however we didn't want to confuse people who were not familiar with TT or have our regulars assuming the worse (which some have). Making a statement like there is NO autograph card or we are dropping the autograph card. Was felt by a number of us (I'm one of them) might confuse a lot of new people into thinking there would be NO autographs at all. We didn't want to create the confusion. Further, it's again a policy change - there still COULD be an autograph card. We are telling people now so that they can prepare for the worse case.

We don't know our final guest list at this time. Do we know that all the guests will be charging? No, some of the guests agents we talk to maybe more flexible and therefore we COULD have an autograph card this year. There are a few guests out there who don't charge for autographs.

Remember: Our statement/policy at this time is we are telling you were are relaxing this requirement when talking to the actors agents. Does that mean everyone will be charging? We don't know.

On your statement that this seems to be some secret, that this information hasn't been communicated on our flyer?

Our Flyer states:

ATTENTION LONG-TIME TT ATTENDEES: Please note that we are changing our autograph policies this year. Please see our web site for details.

As I already stated, once we understood how this developed then we would communicate this more.

We care about all our attendees and want to communicate this information without confusing any possible new attendees who have no idea of our autograph card and what it is. If you've gone to the web page, we'd could
fill much of the flyer trying to explain this change. Yet, we have unfortunately have created more confusion.

The above statement was put in on the flyer even though a few of us (me again) felt a flyer is to promote your event. Not tell people what maybe lost. Again, we didn't put on the flyer last year that there won't be
a dinner - it was just not listed. Plus, anyone new to TT would have no idea what "no autograph card" would mean and then might assume that meant no autographs.

Hope that helps explain things.

So, in a nutshell,
- There will be AutoGraphs
- Some, possibly all Guests will be charging for them.
- There may be free autographs, if the guests say ok.
- By removing the REQUIREMENT that they do a freebie, you have opened the door to more guests, higher profile guests, and greater guest diversity.
- It will not cost me more to attend TT20.

As to the Guest fees:
- Guest believes they could get 50 autographs at $20 each (50x$20= $1,000)
- Guest fee normally $2,000 is now $3,000 because you are paying for those autographs. This raises the cost of a TT Membership, and removes money from the budget to approach guest #2.

Bout right?

Bryan R

I have to say Stephen, what you wrote is probably one of the BEST responses I have read/seen.

I am a big autograph collector and in the past 10 years or so am more than willing (and able) to pay for any/all autographs I want and expect to be paying for them!! I have done so at Vulkon, Motor City, SFX, etc and am very happy TT20 has gone this route.

Look at the Guest list already listed for TT20 (it is an awesome line-up already and not yet a "Trek Guest" announced!), if this change brings more flexibility to the TT20 budget and you can bring more (bigger) guests then from this corner it is a very welcome change!

And being able to keep the weekend membership price to around the $60-$65 CDN mark so attendees not interested in autographs still can enjoy the programing, photos, guest talks etc and this affordable price - sounds like a "win-win" to me!!

I am hoping TT20 is a BIG HIT and with this awesome guest line-up already it looks like it is well on the way!! Jackie and I have not bought our weekend passes yet or booked the otel yet but we are definitely attending TT20 for at least 1 night (Sat - Sunday) and if we can swing it would love to be there from Friday - Sunday nd enjoy as many events this year at the big TT20 as we can!!

On topic: I am looking forward to giving my $20 or so to both Richard Hatch adn amber Benson for an autograph and probably another $20+ to the Trek Guest once one is announced!

Way to go TT20!!

Amber Benson and Richard Hatch!! Can't Wait!!

Yes, that's about right.

Clearly, in reality they would expect to sell more than 50 autographs and the numbers are a larger. But using your example/numbers. In the past we would then say we'll guarantee 70% (i.e. 35 autographs) of that amount so we'll pay $2700 to have 1 free autograph. That way the actor knows they are going to make $2700 vs the $2000 + an unknown amount because they may sell NO autorgraphs.

Basically, in a business terms: We lowered our fixed cost from $2700 to $2000. Meaning we now have $700 dollars more to play with.

Silent Bob

Sounds good so far will formulate a "Do we have question" for SC :D

- So who here is planning on going and have you booked a room yet? , not 100 % sure if i will be going yet but booked my room *sweet king sized bed* will send my membership by the end of the deadline * usually when I decide to commit or not* weighing guests and options and friends going etc.

Are more guests still planned?

Mr.Sulu would be an interesting public relations thing if you could get him as a few other ppl suggested on TTMB to come up and tie the not with his long time buddy .Even if TT footed the bill for room fees etc.

Any possibility that Starbuck can come back this year to make up for haing to bail last? :D

I can see it now "Firefly Cast unite at TT"

Other then that .... ohh and the 649 numbers for this Sat :D

All in all good line up this year am really happy that its all togeather up and running before xmas this year :D good stuff

We haven't booked our room yet but we will get there eventually.

We haven't registered with TT20 yet, we will get to that eventually too.

Actually I am quite happy with the guests already announced (any more will just be gravy!!), but hey any Firefly/Serenity guest would be great (especially Jewel Staite - Kaylee or Summer Glau - River).

If we are taking requests for a TT TOS star - I vote Majel Barrett and as an alternate Nichelle Nichols!

4. Kick Off the Geek Off!

Last year's Geek Off was our first year. And a
successful crash course for the people who helped put
it together in about 2 months time. This year we plan
to start even earlier to provide a fuller and more
entertaining Geek Off with a few changes to the rules,
more questions, and plenty more fun.

Last year we covered four seperate trivia topics with a
fifth round where the top in each area cross competed.
Those areas were Buffyverse, Stargate, Star Trek, and
Star Wars.

This year we plan to rotate out Star Wars (possibly for
it to return another year) and put in Farscape. Another
consideration is adding on another area of Lord Of The
Rings Movie trivia (tentative).

Volunteers are welcome to contact me if they would like
to see if they can help out, we are still looking for
feedback on last years and welcome assistance. We would
also welcome suggestions on potential future areas to
cover intending to keep this competition fresh by
rotating in/out at least one genre each year.

Anyone looking to contact the Geek Off's may do so by

That would be a shame if you two didn't come up to TT20!! :(

If TT is a little expensive, you should seriously look at Cleveland Vulkon in April!!
I know for sure that Jackie and I and Ken and Maggie are going and I know you would love the "smaller" con in Cleveland - it is very similar to a mini Toronto trek. They get between 700-1000 people total at this con.

You would love the dance (it is strictly retro dance), the masquerade is well done (and trophies as prizes!) - there were about 15-20 entries in total and they are building it. They have an Art Room (about 1/2 the size of TT's) and you can hear the guests talk and all you "have to pay" (no autographs is admission!).

I must admit it wouldn't be the same not seeing you (...and SB too ;) ) at TT20!! But I totally understand the money thing!!

Hey it is still 6+ months to TT20, plans can change many times in that timeframe! :)

Any con for us is a balance of admission + hotel + travel. Then weighing it against what we'll be doing there. Last year it was artshow, dealers room, sit at table, take photos and get hit with a stick for me. Not a good justification for a few hundred bucks spent. Wish they had an ala carte pass, where you can add/drop features for a few bucks. (It would of course add up to more than a full membership) Let me show up to hang out, do the art room, the dealers room and the dance for $20, y'know? $5 more gets you masqurade. ;)

We're looking at Vulcon and Erriecon this year.

Don't get me wrong, TT's a great con, tons to do, see, etc. If we can make it, we'll be there.

I know that TT20 has not announced a good Firefly/Serenity guest like: Nathan Filion (Mal) or Alan Tudyk (Wash) or a good Star Wars guest like: Hayden Christiansen (Anakin) or a Top Flight Star Trek guest like Brent Spiner (Data) or Terry Farrell (Dax) but the guest list is stronger than the last 2 years and suredly they will add guests.

Personally I am more excited right now for Vulkon Cleveland in April with LeVar Burton (Geordi), Robert Duncan McNeill (Paris), Robert Picardo (Doctor), Ethan Phillips (Neelix), Connor Trineer (Trip), Linda Park (Hoshi), Anthony Montgomery (Mayweather), Gil Gerard (Buck Rogers) and Erin Gray (Wilma Deering). Vulkon puts on a fun dance, a smaller but well run masquerade, excellent guest talks, dealers room with some really different stuff and their pricing is pretty good for weekend pass ($40-$50 USD).

I am still expecting (hoping) TT20 adds another top Star Trek guest (it is the 40th anniversary of Star Trek in 2006), hopefully a Firefly/Serenity guest and maybe a cool Babylon 5 guest! For me personally I am interested in Amber Benson, Richard Hatch, Adam Busch and Jackie also is interested in Lexa Doig. (Garrett Wang is a fine guest but I have met him at both TT and Motor City, MI in the last 2 years).

If you do not end up going to TT20 keep in mind Vulkon Cleveland in April - a little smaller but definitely a fun weekend!

Yay Buffy guests! Today I learned a new fact..Adam and Amber are a couple!

I'm excited because this year I'm able to sign up to be a panelist again (someone else is keen on doing the Ad Astra table). Here's hoping that I get accepted and they like my ideas.

I'm not too particular on who is there, as guests aren't that important to my attendance. That said, if there's a good mix of guests, then there will be a good crowd, more possible good swag in the dealers room, etc. :)

This was just posted to the TTMB ...

If you're planning to stay at the Double Tree the weekend of Toronto Trek, you REALLY better making your room booking ASAP. The Room Block is almost gone.

If you're thinking about purchasing a BlastOff Party ticket, it would be best to use the Online Registration as the tickets are almost sold out.

If you're looking to get a reserved seat, again book it now while there are some still available.

In short, a lot of the items with limited supply are just about sold out.

If you have any plans to attend TT20 and have not booked your hotel room, I strongly urge you do this immediately - almost nothing left at all.

There should be more guests announced for TT20....so far you have the following:

Michael Shanks - StarGate Sg-1
Garrett Wang - Star Trek Voyager
Richard Hatch - BattleStar Galactica
Lexa Doig - Andromeda
Adam Busch - Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Amber Benson - Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Hmmmm....it has been over 2 months since the last guest was announced at TT20. I would hope for TT20 being such a special year we would have more guests already announced (Shore Leave is the same weekend as TT20 and they already have 11 Media Guests announced and a plethora of Writers/Artists, etc). Seems like quite a long time between guest announcements for TT20!!

Is there a Babylon 5 Guest announced yet? :)

Is there a Star Wars Guest announced yet? ;)

SFX annouces their guests in about 2 months and we already know William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy are ther headliner guests!!

Ooh, inside info...sweet ;)

I respect TT for not announcing guests until they are officially signed up. I remember one convention that announced guests they had approached but hadn't signed up yet. While they didn't say they were signed people could easily be confused and think they were.

That being said, having been in a position to know about a potential guest for a con, it's so hard not to tell everyone :)

Well, it's looking likely Susan and I won't be at TT this year. I've been waiting on hearing back on a few things and as of today, those things haven't happened.

As one of the main reasons for me going is the art show, with time running out to get space reserved and get art done, I won't be able to get in and prepare in time. I can't plan for this without confirmation of another matter, which has not been resolved at this time. So, it's looking less and less likely ol SB will be there. Which sucks, because I love the TT art show, and have enjoyed having my stuff up there, and spending huge wads of cash on the other artists stuff.

Might pop up on Sunday with my son though to see Michael Shanks, as my son's a huge Stargate fan.

I'm with Miyu....I'll show some enthusiasm when and if the guests are announced.

So far there are 1 guest of main interest (Amber, because I missed seeing her the year Anthony Daniels was at Trek) and 2 of moderate interest (Adam and Richard H.).....but not enough reason to justify paying for a hotel room for the night. It's looking like a day trip at this point.....but anything can change if the additional guests are of greater interest.

I won't be attending TT this year either. Flights are $600+.. two years ago I got a great deal with Jetsgo for $305 inclusive. I don't go for the guests, but I cannot justify spending so much on a flight. I'd also have to go visit family in London or they'd be mad! Besides, after being in Calgary for a couple of years, enduring the summer Ontario weather is something I'd rather leave in the past. It's gross eh! Too bad it's snowing here today. TT is also during our busy season at work so of course overtime is plentiful.

Ok here's the thing....I don't know if I'm gonna go to TT20 this year. There are too many games being played....there was supposed to be an announcement of the upcoming guests (3 of them) being announced this past weekend....this was said, since they had been signed and CONCOM were waiting on "approval for the TCON newsletter of the statement of these new guests to be announced".

Well its now Monday evening and still nothing is announced....if they have officially been signed...then announce them already.

This is extremely frustrating!!!!! If I do go it will probably be only for the Sunday now since the main reason why I go is to see the guests.

I hear you buddy!

So far Jackie and I are leaning towards attending TT20 only on the Sunday (depending on who the 3 new guests are - I am assuming they should be posted tonight/tomorrow on the TT20 website) we will decide if it is enough to go Saturday/Sunday and spend 1 night at the hotel (at this time we have 1 night booked at the doubletree but we could always cancel if need be).

I am very surprised TT20 has waited so long to announce guests and this week is also when SFX is announcing their guest line-up (Horror Guests on May 9th at 1pm and SciFi guests May 12th @ 1pm), knowing already that William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy are headlining and also knowing that SFX will announce some awesome guests (they always do) this will steal a bit of "thunder" from the TT20 announcements and actually depending on the SFX guests it will dictate also budgets for spending.

If SFX announces a bunch of guests I want autographs from it can also dictate how much we budget to spend at TT20.

So, T.J. right now it looks like Jackie and I will be there Sunday and it is 50-50 whether we go for Saturday and Sunday and spend 1 night. We want to see Amber Bendon, Adam Busch and Richard Hatch (right now)..actually Michael Shanks and Lexa Doig are of no interest to me personally so I save a bit there and there is no way in HE"double hockey sticks" I am paying $20 for a photo op - so we save there too!

From one of Moose's posts on the TTMB I got the impression that he was *hoping* they could announce the new guests on the weekend, but more realistically it would probably be around Tuesday.

I'm not on the TT ConCom, but from my experience it can be incredibly frustrating to have a guest pending but to not be able to announce them because you're waiting for someone to dot the "i"s and cross the "t"s. My assumption is that they haven't been announced because they're waiting for the guests to sign. I doubt they'd sit on it any longer than they had to.

I'm looking forward to seeing Garett and Amber the most, but Adam and Richard H. will be interesting too. Don't watch Stargate so while Michael Shanks is a cutie I don't care if I see him :)

I'm with you T.J....I think it's a way to build interest but unfortunately, I think their guest announcement will come up flat. These guests should have been announced weeks ago so that it would not conflict with SFX announcements. Surely, whomever Trek announces will be overshadowed by whatever SFX announces. We already know that some of the guests have attended TT previously.

I remember them doing that before with other guests and it may have been board members who asked for it because they wanted to know who was coming and ConCom can't come right out and say it. I wish I could find the thread...

It doesn't make any sense to me that someone would purposefully delay announcing a guest. Getting the names up there on the web site would be doing TT a lot more good than a guessing game on the TTMB that only a handful of people are reading. So logically I'm thinking that if they could announce it they would.

I am on the same wave-length as you on this one Chani, if TT20 has 3 SIGNED contracts it would definitely be in their best interests to announce them and get the word out!!

If it is strictly a "too busy" thing then IMHO I would just get the t-con news out and update the website later (in a day or so will not hurt).

It is just getting very close to SFX announcements and it is a shame if TT20's gets overshadowed by SFX's.

I cannot believe that TT20 would purposely hold back announcing as a "game", I think 'Moose, Lance and Sharon are above that sort of thing.

I'm not saying they are purposely delaying announcing the guests...but they shouldn't say that there should be an announcement this past weekend, and not announce them. Saw the announcement. Was very underwelmed. All that build up and...
they announce s guy who's most recent claim to fame is coming out (after 20 years of everyone knowing anyway) and being the latest Howard Stern SideKick, a bit player, and a rather average author.

Whee.

"Not Bad, Eh?"

Not Great, Eh.

The line up, with what, 60 days to go:
George Takei - Hikaru Sulu- Star Trek
Michael Shanks - Daniel Jackson- Stargate SG-1 Sunday only
Amber Benson - Tara Maclay- Buffy The Vampire Slayer
Garrett Wang - Ensign Harry Kim - Star Trek: Voyager
Adam Busch - Warren Meers -Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Julie Caitlin Brown - Na'Toth- Babylon 5
Lexa Doig - Rommie- Andromeda- Sunday only
Richard Hatch - Apollo/Tom Zarek - Battlestar Galactica
David Gerrold - Child of Earth
Larry Stewart - Master of Ceremonies - Aurora Award Winner

Sorry, not doing it for me. Bunch of C and D list actors, a few who haven't really worked since their 'claim to fame' ended years ago.

Seems like a Galaxy Quest event. I looked at their prices too....holy frak!
You'd think, with that level of pricing, they were top tier guests. Now, you pay a premium to get in, and a premium for everything else. What a crappy deal.

Saw this over on their message board:

#3: The cost of a TT membership is higher this year than last, and yet some the things that we used to get "free" (in other words, buried in the price of admission) are now extra (autographs, photo sessions). Why didn't the cost of admission to TT also go down?

Finally, in regards to question 3, here's a direct quote from the TT20 Chairs:

TT20 Chairs wrote:
That's an excellent question, but it is based on a false assumption. Your question is based on the premise that TT used to pay for these items out of your admission costs, and are now asking for you to pay for them directly instead. In fact, paying for example for the photo sessions is a NEW cost that the actors have not charged us for in previous years. So, in fact, had this remained a hidden cost, we would have had to increase membership prices considerably to pay the actors for this service.

Furthermore, other costs to TT have risen in recent years, and this has not been fully reflected in membership price increases over the years. Prime examples of this are the airfares we pay to bring the guests into Toronto, and the amount we pay the hotel for use of the space over the weekend. All in all, even with the changes you noted, TT's overall costs have increased, not decreased, and the membership rates reflect that.

Other cons seem to be able to hold costs down, even in a few cases lower them. Then again, it is always easier to hold costs down when one regularly has a packed event. I am unable to find attendance information for this con other than some empty marketing hype "largest fan run con" crap. I dug around on their forum and found a lot of avoidance when ever they were asked to commit to a number. So, anyone know how many people actually attended last year?

2. PROGRAMMING UPDATE

TT prides itself on being a multi-fandom convention,
presenting over 200 hours of open discussions,
lectures, readings, games, and other unique programming
on all forms of science fiction, fantasy, horror, and
beyond. You can't grasp the scale until you check it
out for yourself:

http://www.tcon.ca/tt20/index.php?pg=programming&section=panels

This list is 99% complete, and the Programming Team is
working hard to regularly update it with changes as
they happen. Remember, a panel only will make the
final schedule in June based on whether there are
adequate signups from panelists.

It is not too late to suggest a panel or sign up to be
a panelist. Go to the Panelist Area:

http://www.tcon.ca/tt20/index.php?pg=programming&section=welcome

If you already are a panelist, your Programming Team
contact is now taking your requests to be on specific
panels. E-mail them ASAP, or send an email to
programming@tcon.ca so we can put you in touch with
your contact.

Don't forget our Video Contest! Create a 2-5 minute
video that expresses the spirit of "The TT Generation"
for a chance to win up to four free memberships to next
year's convention. See our website for the complete

Due to popular demand, we've slightly increased our
reserved seating area this year. However, even with
that small increase, there are 40 seats left!!! So if
you are looking for reserved seating, now is the time
to pre-register to ensure you get your guaranteed seat.

4. CHARITY AUCTION UPDATE

The TT20 Charity Auction is one event you won’t want
to miss this year!

Proceeds raised through the auction go to support
Ronald McDonald House, an organization that provides a
"home away from home" for out-of-town families. This
enables parents to stay near their children who are
receiving medical treatment at local Toronto hospitals.
Over the years, TT has helped raise over $100,000 for
this worthy cause!

Visit the Charity Auction page on the TT20 website at:

http://www.tcon.ca/tt20/index.php?pg=charityauction&section=intro

There you'll find details about the Auction and a
listing of some of the huge number of items we will
have up for bid. Autographed photos, shooting scripts,
collectibles and much more! Check back often as we are
constantly receiving donations. If you would like to
donate, please email us or drop your items off at the
Con Office or Charity Auction Viewing Room during the
convention weekend.

For more information, please check the webpage or E-Mail
us at charity@tcon.ca

The Charity Auction Viewing Room will be located in the

Saw this over on their message board:

Other cons seem to be able to hold costs down, even in a few cases lower them. Then again, it is always easier to hold costs down when one regularly has a packed event. I am unable to find attendance information for this con other than some empty marketing hype "largest fan run con" crap. I dug around on their forum and found a lot of avoidance when ever they were asked to commit to a number. So, anyone know how many people actually attended last year?
No idea. I've asked numerous times, been given a average number of 2,200, with some flux. Last 2 years have seemed light trafficked to me, but I base that solely on my ease of getting into events, checking the reg lines, and being able to get most of what I want at the art auction compared to past years of large crowds, etc. With the change in hotels, it could be a more efficient funneling process is in place as well.

I'm just curious who is doing the martial arts workshop this year, since neither I nor my instructor (who did the last few years) will be there.

Of course "Moosey already answered that this "mystery guest" did not star in a show with the word "Star" in it so I am assuming no Star tRek or Star Wars guest.

I am still holding out hoe for a real good Babylon 5 or Firefly guest (I know, probably a guest from Earth Final Conflict or Farscape but I can hope!).

I haven't heard if they are still planning on doing this (I know it is still up on their website so I guess they could be trying to get someone else to run it).

Possibly Sid knows someone who could run this and they may go down that road.

I still think that TT20 could have made good money by getting your friend to do it and all it costs them is a hotel room for a couple of nights (the pass costs them nthing, as he is now not going they were not getting money for this part anyways) and 4 sessions at $10 per person would make TT20 way more than the hotel room would cost for 2 nights.

Since it looks like the new guest is NOT from Star Trek or Star Wars I am hoping they are a good guest from either: Firefly, New Battlestar Galactic or Babylon 5.

I am hoping it is not a guest from Earth: Final Conflict again.

LOL! As long as the guest isn't Leni Parker or Chris Owens...They have both been at TT many times! Or is it Julie Czerneda?..she has been at TT and Ad AStra numerous times.

Here is MY GUESS for who the TT20 new guest they haven't announced yet.

This guess is based on all the clues that is on the TTMB.

Mira Furlan

(she has been to TT before, right age, on a current series - LOST, nationality would give her away and the fact they did not answer if the guest had a "5" in the show they were on and they did answer about "Star" and "Earth").

Just my guess and just for fun - that is my guess! :)

I know Mira still looks hot for 51!! ;)

For me she would be an awesome addition! I am a huge B5 (and LOST) fan and for me she is a better guest than any Star Trek guest (short of Kate Mulgrew or Colm Meaney)!!

I am hoping I am right on this guess!! :)

I will give my props to TT for getting more autograph guests this year, but it still isn't enough to get me there this year. Just too many guests i have seen before or just don't want to see. I will be saving my money for Alice Cooper and Carrie Fisher at SFX. Hope those going to TT have fun.

You will be missed John!!

I know if you are a big Star Wars and Star Trek fan, TT20 may not be your choice as George Takei has been to TT before in Toronto, at SFX about 3 years ago in Toronto and many years ago in Toronto at a Creation event. Garrett was at TT just about 3-4 years ago too. And obviously no Star Wars guest this year.

For Jackie (shoppingqueen and I), we are big Babylon 5 and Buffy fans so Mira Furlan Adam Busch and Amber Benson are great for us, also I have an action figure for Richard Hatch to sign too!

I am also looking forward to SFX as I want to see Carrie Fisher, Morena Baccarin, Juliet Landau, Billy Boyd, James Callis, Leonard Nimoy, William Shatner. SFX will cost me some $$$$.

Sounds like you will get a few autographs at TT Bryan. Hope you and Jackie have fun. Yeah, they have too many guests that were there in the past, Amber Benson was just there a couple of years ago as well, as was Richard Hatch i believe. Once i've seen a guest and gotten an autoghraph i really have little desire to see them again. The only person i would another autograph from is Kevin Smith, and his was free the first time. What about Alice Cooper, are you goint to get his autograph Bryan?

John,

Actually I am going to skip getting Alice Cooper's autograph. I do like him but I only have so much room in the budget for SFX!! :)

I actually missed Amber at TT a few years back as I was too busy with Anthony Daniels and Dominic Keating!!

I hear ya about having a budget. That's part of the reason i won't be at TT. I couldn't pass up getting Alice Cooper's autograph, especially after i dig up that album i have back from the late 70's. I can't see why albums went out of style, other then they aren't compact, scratched too easily, and the sound quality usually sucked. :) Hope you and Jackie enjoy yourselves at TT and i'll see you at SFX.

As per the Toronto Trek Message Board - they have another signed contract back.

The "official" announcement has not been made but according to the "hints that were dropped" it is a FEMALE star from Firefly.

As Morena Baccarin (Inara) is at SFX here in Toronto in 2 months from then I would surmise it is not her so it leaves 4 possibilities.

Jewel Staite - KayLee

Gina Torres - Zoe

Summer Glau - River Tam

Christina Hendricks - Saffron

Any work great for Jackie (shoppingqueen) and I!!!!!!! One of my favourite shows of all time!! :)

From the clues, I'd say that it is Jewel.

Stephen mentioned something about the convention needing to be a week long with all the guests. A week equals seven days, which is a show that Jewel appeared in. Later he said his clues were much more of an "odyssey", which is another show Jewel was in (thank you IMDB).

I hope I'm right, it'd be super exciting!

I am also thrilled to see Jewel Staite at TT20 - that will be awesome!!

My only worry about TT20 is getting autographs, it should be an easy thing with little wait times (ie: like Motor City, MI or Vulko, Cleveland) but in the past TT always makes a big isue and has huge line-ups.

With this amount of guests (and some real top-flite ones too!) all they need to do is have tables set-up and let people lineup at the tables for the guests, this "one big room" and massive line-up is very "old-school" and causes more problems than needed.

If they solve this one then this should be an enjoyable experience!!

It should be easy to get the autographs of the people you want - to get all 10 should not take more than 90-120 minutes - tops!
