shopping queen 07-29-2005, 07:56 AM Compared to last October, this guest list is certainly a let down. In a way it's a good thing as we were hoping to save a bit of money for all of the cons we hope to attend in 2006. Besides, we are pretty much guaranteed that there will be an amazing guest list at their May convention...which tends to be the bigger and better convention anyways.
Bryan R 08-30-2005, 10:05 AM Motor City has added a Star Trek Guest to the line-up.
Garret Wang
Ensign Kim
Star Trek Voyager
Bryan R 09-07-2005, 04:44 PM A new guest added to this convention.
Jack Stauffer
Bojay
Original Battlestar Galactica
You will see him listed in the "Events" section speaking on Sunday.
The complete Guest talks are listed in the Events section on their website.
Bryan R 09-15-2005, 09:23 AM Another Classic Battlestar guest added to this convention!
Herb Jefferson, Jr.
Boomer
Classic Battlestar Galactica
Also note they have added Jack Stauffer now officially to the Guest Page!
Bryan R 09-27-2005, 09:23 AM There has been a big name guest added to this line-up!!
LeVar Burton
Geordi Laforge
Star Trek TNG
Bryan R 10-07-2005, 05:00 PM A couple of small additions to this line-up.

Bryan R 10-15-2005, 09:28 PM Quick report on this convention that shoppingqueen and I attended.
We arrived at the new centre where this was held (new and awesome place! lots more room in the aisles and CLEAN washrooms!).
We got there at about 10:50am, bought our tickets and headed in at 11:05am sharp (doors opened at 11:00am for General Admission and 10:30am if you had Advanced Tickets.)
We went right to the autograph area and found Herb Jefferson Jr (Boomer from BSG - Classic) and he signed a pic for Jackie and we took some pics with him (actually Jack Stauffer was "requested" by Herb to take a pic if myself and Jackie with him! - of course Jack obliged!).
After we were finished with Herb we went to see Jack Stauffer, got a couple of pics and a couple of autographs and moved on to see Ernie Hudson (Wilson from Ghostbusters among many projects he has done).
Ernie was awesome (so nice and polite), I had my pic taken with him and got an autograph on the Ghostbusters DVD cover sleeve and then we moved over to Garrett Wang's area (Ensign Kim from Star Trek: Voyager).
Jackie had her pic taken with Garrett and we got an Action Figure signed, chatted to Garrett for a bit and when we were done we headed to the Dealer's area. Getting these 4 gents to sign our autographs and get pics with them all took a grand total of about 30-35 minutes.
We walked/shopped the dealer's area for about an hour (Jackie got some awesome deals on Action figures - both for our 2 kids and also some for me!! ;) ).
We saw that LeVar Burton had arrived so we jumped into his line-up, took about 15 minutes for us to get to LeVar, we got 2 autographs (1 on our Movie Poster and another on a Star trek TNG magazine), I took Jackie's pic with LeVar and we were done our autograph and pics that we wanted from this convention.
I can tell you that other than LeVar the most popular person with a line-up the whole time we were there was....Rob Van Dam (WWE wrestler), he brought a Championship belt with him and was posing for pics and doing autographs and people seemed to just love him!
The October version of Motor City is smaller than their big event in May but much more intimate and so easy to get autographs and pics in a relaxed setting and the Dealer's room was awesome as usual (tons of variety, including T-Shirts, Anime stuff, loads of Action Figures/Toys, Adult Magazines, Comics Galore!!), well worth the trip and an average hotel room in Novi, MI (decent hotel runs you about $55-$62USD per night). They also have a party/dance (we did not attend this but we probably will at their May one).
If you are interested you should read the guest list for the May 2006 Motor City Convention I have posted!! :)
shopping queen 10-15-2005, 10:35 PM We actually headed to Michigan on Friday afternoon and enjoyed dinner and a movie (Serenity)...which was a rare treat for us! What a great way to unwind after a long drive.
>>Quick report on this convention that shoppingqueen and I attended.
We arrived at the new centre where this was held (new and awesome place! lots more room in the aisles and CLEAN washrooms!).
I was most impressed with the new choice for the Motor City Con. It was less than 5 minutes from the Novi Expo where the con was formerly held so we chose to stay at our usual hotel, the Wyndam Gardens. They used the smaller portion of the building for the Comic Con as there was a large Home Show taking place in another section on the same weekend. I'm sure they will be using all or most of the building for their May show.
LOL! That was quite funny when Herb suggested that we BOTH were in the pic and kindly told Jack to come and take the picture. He did too! Herb told us that he had the BEST time when he was in Toronto at Toronto Trek a few years ago because he was treated so well by the Canadian fans. It was great having a few minutes to chat to him about previous cons we had seen him, including Vulkon Cleveland, which is where the pic was that I wanted him to sign for me. We were joking that we will have to follow him to his next con so he can sign the pic we took with him at Motor City! LOL!
>>After we were finished with Herb we went to see Jack Stauffer, got a couple of pics and a couple of autographs
Well I just HAD to get Jack to sign my poster signed....how cool is it that after just a few conventions that I already have Richard Hatch, Herb Jefferson Jr., Anne Lockhart, Dirk Benedict and now Jack Stauffer. Go BattleStar!!! I had a hoot getting my pic taken with Jack because he insisted that I wear the BattleStar jacket he had at his table....so very cool!!!
>>Ernie was awesome (so nice and polite), I had my pic taken with him and got an autograph
I agree that Ernie was a great guest....so very friendly and willing to chat about various things with us.
>>Jackie had her pic taken with Garrett and we got an Action Figure signed, chatted to Garrett for a bit and when we were done we headed to the Dealer's area.
Well actually, we timed our autograph just right because we were actually the FIRST to meet Garrett. We were in the autograph area right when he arrived at his table so we gave him a few minutes to set up and get organized before we approached his table. We chatted for a bit about when we saw him up at Trek and he joked about how he made his family stand up in front of the audience. It was great getting a photo with him as I didn't have an opportunity to do this at Trek....and besides, it was so easy to take a quick pic with him after he signed the autograph for us. Another great guest!
>>We walked/shopped the dealer's area for about an hour (Jackie got some awesome deals on Action figures - both for our 2 kids and also some for me!! ).
It was like shopping for Christmas!!!! What awesome deals....superhero action figures for as low as $1. How cool is that!!!! It was perfect timing as Kyle is having his birthday party and the theme is Superheroes and Super Villains....such as BATMAN!!! We also picked up a few Star Wars things for Kyle for his birthday and X-mas stocking that again would be a fortune if you could even find them in a store but were GREAT deals in the dealer's room.
>>We saw that LeVar Burton had arrived so we jumped into his line-up
What a SUPER guest....so very friendly and appreciative of his fans. It was great getting my pic with LeVar as I wasn't able to do this at SFX. As well, we thanked him again for coming to Toronto to replace Patrick Stewart last year on such short notice. It was great having a few minutes to chat with him.
>>the most popular person with a line-up the whole time we were there was....Rob Van Dam (WWE wrestler), he brought a Championship belt with him and was posing for pics and doing autographs and people seemed to just love him!
It looked like everyone was having a GREAT time in his line...he was joking around with people while he was posing for pics and was proudly putting the championship belt over people's shoulders for the pics.
It's funny that at one point we had decided that we would not attend this convention due to the lack of guests who were attending. They did a great job of getting enough key guests to peak our interest and lure us 4 hours down to Michigan. It was definitely worth the drive! We had a fantastic weekend. I'm hoping that the get more sci-fi guests for the May con that we would love to see.....if the do I know we'll find a way to get there!
Silent Bob 10-15-2005, 10:45 PM RVD is supposed to be a great con guest, really good with fans. He owns a comic shop and regularly has name level wrestlers and others in.
