(212) Resurrection Ship - Part 2
Summary
The battlestars Pegasus and Galactica team up to go head to head against a pair of Cylon BaseStars guarding the Cylon Resurrection ship.
The President at Adama decide that Cain must die in order to save the fleet from Cains ruthlessness. At the same time, Cain conspires with her XO to take out Adama and seize control of the fleet. Adama recruits Starbuck to take out Cain on his order after returning from the attack on the Cylons. On hearing this, Apollo challenges his father on both the morality and legality of the order, but Adama holds fast.
While piloting the BlackBird stealth fighter, the ship is hit and Apollo ejects to float helpless in space while his air leaks out through a tear in his flight suit. Rescued at the last moment, Apollo is forced to face his giving up in the face of death. Meanwhile, both Starbuck and the Pegasus's XO are forced to face their consciences as they wait for the order to terminate the others commanders.
While in the Pegasus brig, Pegasus crew members brutally assault Galactica prisoners Chief Galen Tyrol and Lt. Karl Agathon, as revenge for the murder of one of their officers. Only a timely intervention by the Pegasus's XO halts the beating before it becomes fatal.
As the battle intensifies, both crews must face their destinies. Baltar frees Gina from prison promising her a safe place to hide. At the critical moment, both Cain and Adama step back from giving the order to terminate the other, to the great relief of both would be assassins. After they stand down, Cain retires to her quarters where Gina waits. At Cains funeral, Starbuck speaks favorably of Cain, taking several pointed shots at Adama in her speech.
Review
A tension filled episode that wrapped up the Cain story arc. Starbucks speech at the end hints at some serious divergences between her and the Adamas down the road. Obviously unaware of Cains actions with her own civilian fleet, she speaks highly of Cain and quite obviously feels that Adama put her in a hard spot, only to back down after she had struggled with the decision to follow his request and walk into what would have most likely been her own death. Baltar's sanity is in major question as he appears quite smitten with Gina who is the physical image of the Six in his mind. Apollo's giving up in the face of death seems to be a result of his demotion and disappointment in his fathers actions. The final scene with Cain flinching at the last moment as she looked down her killers barrel was an excellent touch. I quite enjoyed this episode.
Plot Holes:
How did Gina get into Cains quarters, and how did she get off the ship after killing Admiral Cain?
