(214) Black Market

Summary
The episode starts with a flash forward, then we go back 2 days to where the story started. Lee is with a woman, Shevon, we shortly learn is a prostitute, and has become enamored with the womans child, paya. Later at a meeting with the President, we learn that there is a developing black market within the fleet that is funneling food, medicine and other luxury items to the rich and depriving the poor of needed relief. Roslin orders the military to crack down on it, but before things get rolling, the Pegasus's CO, Jack Fisk is murdered by the gang. Adama puts Lee in charge of the investigation. While in Fisks quarters on Pegasus, Lee is interupted by Baltar who had a meeting with him planned. Suspicions flare. Lee returns to visit Shevon, sees she's been roughed up by someone, and is in the process of getting her to leave with him when he is jumped from behind. It's the gang, making a point and giving Lee Fisk's killer, in exchange for his walking away. Tom Zarek shows up and points Lee at the Prometheus, home ship to the black market. There Lee faces the ugly reality of humanities underbelly and his past.

Review
This episode provides an excellent look inside Lee Adama's head, post space walk. He's obviously very troubled, and taking more risks. Maybe to prove to himself that he's not a coward having given up when he was floating alone in space earlier. There was obviously someone in his past very dear to him, now presumed dead after the cylon holocaust that he can't let go. It's not made clear, was she pregnant, or wanted to be? Tom Zarek's involvement is interesting. There is now an obvious Billy-Lee-Dualla triangle in motion, and obvious tension between Baltar and Roslin. This episode also takes a look at the darkest reaches of humanity, hinting at slavery, child prostitution, and worse. One is faced with the question, does humanity really deserve to survive?

Unresolved Questions
- How much time has elapsed between the death of Cain and this episode? Seems a little 'fast' for Pegasus new CO to get cosy with an established black market system.
- Who was the girl Lee kept thinking of?
